A robust and large agaric species, Agaricus macrosporus is characterized by its substantial size, with caps often reaching 20-25 cm in diameter. The cap is initially hemispherical and white, expanding to become convex or flat and developing yellowish or ochre tones with age or upon bruising. The flesh is thick, firm, and white, staining faintly reddish or orange when cut. Young specimens emit a pleasant almond-like odor which can become ammoniacal in maturity.
Widespread in Europe and parts of North America.
