Lactifluus corrugis is a robust ectomycorrhizal fungus closely related to L. volemus but distinguished by its darker coloration and surface texture. The cap is dark reddish-brown to purplish-brown and typically features a corrugated or wrinkled surface, especially at maturity. Young specimens may have a whitish bloom. Like its relative, it exudes copious white latex that stains the gill tissue brown upon exposure to air. Found primarily in eastern North America, it grows in association with oak trees in deciduous forests. It is considered a choice edible species, sharing the dense texture and culinary qualities of the Weeping Milk Cap. The odor is mild to slightly fishy, though often less pronounced than in L. volemus.
