Limacella is a genus of fungi in the family Amanitaceae, characterized by the presence of a slimy or viscid universal veil that covers the mushroom during development. Unlike the closely related Amanita, Limacella species typically lack a volva (cup-like structure) at the base of the stipe, although the veil may leave a slimy ring or coating. The genus was described by mycologist Franklin Sumner Earle in 1909 and has historically been placed in various families, including Pluteaceae, before being confirmed as a sister group to Amanita within Amanitaceae.
