Cordyceps cicadae is a well-known entomopathogenic fungus that has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for centuries. It parasitizes the nymphs of cicadas (Cicadidae), typically while they are underground. The fungus consumes the host insect and produces a club-shaped or branched stroma that emerges from the ground, often resembling a flower, hence the name 'Cicada Flower'. It is historically significant and is considered a safer, more affordable alternative to Ophiocordyceps sinensis.
