Mossy Maze Polypore
A hairy, zoned bracket fungus on hardwoods, often green with algae on top, with a whitish to gray pore surface that is maze-like and becomes toothed with age. A thin dark line just under the cap surface is a useful field character. It is the fungal partner of the horntail wasp Tremex columba and a well-studied source of the enzyme laccase.
Inedible.

Mycology is an evolving science: names, classifications and safety information change as research advances. Entries are compiled from cited sources and reviewed, but may be incomplete or out of date — check the sources, and never rely on this library alone to identify or eat a mushroom.
