Chlorophyllum is a genus of large, saprobic fungi that closely resemble members of the genus Macrolepiota. Historically, many species now in Chlorophyllum were classified as Macrolepiota or Lepiota. The genus is best known for containing both choice edible species (like C. rhacodes) and toxic lookalikes (like C. molybdites). They are characterized by their large stature, scaly caps, and free gills.
