Snowy Waxcap
A small to medium white waxcap with thick, distant, waxy gills that run down the stem. In Europe it is a classic species of old, unimproved grasslands; in North America it is found in woods and disturbed ground. Its nutritional mode is uncertain: recent work suggests it is neither mycorrhizal nor a typical saprobe and may be associated with mosses.
Reported as edible in European sources, but small. Not recommended for beginners: small white mushrooms in grass include the muscarine-containing Clitocybe rivulosa / C. dealbata, which has thin, crowded gills rather than the thick, distant, waxy gills of this species. Confirm identification carefully.
