A common bird's nest fungus of dead wood and wood-chip mulch, with a hairy brown outer wall and a shiny, vertically grooved inner wall. Its peridioles are thrown out by raindrops and stick to nearby vegetation by an adhesive cord. It is a source of several antibiotic compounds.
