Dung-loving Deconica
A small, reddish brown to yellowish brown, slightly sticky mushroom with purple-brown gills that grows on horse and cow dung. It was long placed in Psilocybe, but molecular studies moved the non-bluing species of that genus to Deconica. It does not bruise blue and is reported not to contain psilocybin.
Edibility unknown; not a food species. Stamets reports that it contains neither psilocybin nor psilocin, so it is not hallucinogenic. Dung also hosts psilocybin-containing Psilocybe cubensis and Panaeolus species, which bruise blue or have black spores; the legal status of psilocybin mushrooms varies by jurisdiction.
