Galerina marginata (Batsch) Kühner is a small, brown, wood-dwelling mushroom that contains alpha-amanitin and related amatoxins in amounts comparable to Amanita phalloides. It grows on rotting wood, including wood chips and sawdust, in the same places as edible wood-lovers such as Kuehneromyces mutabilis, Hypholoma and Armillaria, and can appear in outdoor wood-chip beds. It is a critical safety reference for foragers and growers.
