Collared Earthstar
Geastrum triplex, the collared earthstar, is the largest common earthstar. Its outer layer splits into four to eight rays, and the ray bases often crack around the spore sac to form a saucer-like collar. It grows saprobically in hardwood leaf litter and humus, often under beech.
Inedible: not poisonous, but tough and fibrous. Reportedly edible when immature, though rarely found at that stage; not a food mushroom.

Mycology is an evolving science: names, classifications and safety information change as research advances. Entries are compiled from cited sources and reviewed, but may be incomplete or out of date — check the sources, and never rely on this library alone to identify or eat a mushroom.
