The only genus in Gyroporaceae: ectomycorrhizal boletes with brittle stems that become hollow or chambered and a pale yellow spore print. Recent work suggests species diversity is far higher than the roughly ten species recognized in 2008.
Cap dry, often velvety or scaly; pore surface white to yellowish; stem brittle, soon hollow or chambered, not reticulate; spore print pale yellow; some species bruise blue through the pigment gyrocyanin.
