Chrome-footed Bolete
A bolete with a pink to rosy cap, whitish to pinkish pores, and a white stem dotted with pink scabers above a bright chrome-yellow base. It grows with hardwoods and conifers in eastern North America. The yellow stem base is the key field mark.
Edible and reported as good, though often infested with maggots. Confirm the chrome-yellow stem base and pink scabers. Avoid bitter Tylopilus species and any bolete with red pores or blue-staining flesh, some of which are poisonous.
Never eat a wild mushroom based on a web page — confirm with an expert.
