Depressed Hedgehog, Belly Button Hedgehog
The depressed hedgehog is a small eastern North American tooth fungus with a cap that has a depressed or navel-like center, white spines and a white spore print. It was described by Peck from New York in 1902 and is easily confused with the larger hedgehogs once called H. repandum.
Edible and good. No Hydnum species is known to be toxic, and no poisonous look-alikes are known. It is easily confused with other, also edible, hedgehogs.

Mycology is an evolving science: names, classifications and safety information change as research advances. Entries are compiled from cited sources and reviewed, but may be incomplete or out of date — check the sources, and never rely on this library alone to identify or eat a mushroom.
