Lizard's claw stinkhorns
3 species
A genus of about 19 stinkhorn species whose fruit bodies hatch from an egg as a hollow stalk topped by short, thick arms. The inner arm surfaces carry a foul-smelling spore slime that attracts insects for spore dispersal. The genus is widespread.
Fruit body: emerges from a gelatinous egg with a basal volva; hollow, spongy stalk bearing short, stout arms that may stay joined at the tips or spread apart. Gleba: olive-brown to dark brown, malodorous slime on the arms. Spores: narrowly ellipsoid, smooth, about 4-5 x 1.5-2 um.
