Red-volva Bamboo Fungus
Phallus rubrovolvatus is a veiled stinkhorn with a dark purple volva, a yellowish reticulated cap and a white net-like indusium. It is one of China's most valued cultivated bamboo fungi. Large-scale cultivation is centered in Guizhou, especially Zhijin County, and it is grown in greenhouses and under forest cover. It is eaten fresh or dried and is also used as a medicinal-dietary mushroom.
Edible and widely cultivated in China, prized for its crisp, tender texture, often in soups. Eat cultivated product. Wild stinkhorn eggs can resemble Amanita buttons, so cut any wild egg lengthwise and identify it before use.
