Scotomyces is a small, distinct genus within the Ceratobasidiaceae, containing the single widespread species Scotomyces subviolaceus (syn. S. fallax). Unlike the Rhizoctonia complex, it forms resupinate, effused basidiocarps that are typically olive-green to blackish-violet in color. It is primarily a saprotroph found on decaying wood and plant debris.
