Genus of pink-spored, volvate agarics in the Pluteaceae, erected in 2011 for species formerly in Volvariella. It has four accepted species (V. asiaticus, V. earlei, V. gloiocephalus, V. michiganensis) and occurs on every continent except Antarctica.
Gills: free, white becoming pink. Spore print: pinkish brown. Stem base: membranous white volva; no ring. Spores: averaging over 11 um long. Cap cuticle: thin hyphae in a conspicuous gelatinous matrix, giving a sticky cap. Pluteus lacks a volva, and Volvariella has smaller spores and a non-gelatinized cuticle.
