Cerinomyces is the type and sole accepted genus of the family Cerinomycetaceae. Unlike most members of the class Dacrymycetes, which typically form gelatinous, cushion-like fruit bodies, Cerinomyces species are characterized by their resupinate (crust-like), corticioid basidiocarps that are dry to waxy in texture. The genus was traditionally defined by this corticioid morphology, but recent molecular studies (Savchenko et al. 2021) have redefined it as a monophyletic group based on a combination of microscopic traits rather than just macroscopic form.
