Spring Orange Peel
A bright orange-yellow cup fungus of conifer forests that fruits in early spring, often soon after snowmelt. Its rim and outer surface stain olive-green to bluish with age or handling, a reaction that is unusual among cup fungi and separates it from orange look-alikes such as Aleuria aurantia. Its asexual stage, Geniculodendron pyriforme, is a pathogen of dormant conifer seed.
Not edible. Reported as non-poisonous but of no food value; not recommended.
