A genus of heteroecious rust fungi that alternate between junipers and other Cupressaceae and rose-family hosts such as apple, pear, quince and hawthorn. Many species form galls on junipers that extrude orange, gelatinous spore horns in wet spring weather.
Obligate plant parasites; telia on Cupressaceae (galls, swellings or bark sori with gelatinous horns); spermogonia and aecia on Rosaceae, causing yellow-orange leaf spots and tubular aecia on leaves and fruit; spores wind-dispersed between hosts.
