Cordyceps kyushuensis is a medicinal species closely related to C. militaris. It parasitizes the larvae of moths (Lepidoptera). It is valued for its high cordycepin content, which some studies suggest can exceed that of C. militaris. The species produces stromata that are morphologically distinct but similar in color to other orange Cordyceps species.
