Cordyceps pruinosa is a distinct species known for its reddish-purple to rust-red stromata. It parasitizes the cocoons of slug moths (Limacodidae). It has a unique life cycle where it can remain dormant as a sclerotium inside the cocoon before fruiting. It is investigated for its anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties.
