Pacific Golden Chanterelle
Cantharellus formosus, the Pacific golden chanterelle, is the main commercially harvested chanterelle of the Pacific Northwest and the state mushroom of Oregon. It is ectomycorrhizal with Douglas-fir and western hemlock, and its paler false gills often have a pinkish tint.
Choice edible; brush clean rather than washing. Rule out the poisonous western jack-o'-lantern (Omphalotus olivascens: sharp true gills, clusters on wood), the false chanterelle Hygrophoropsis aurantiaca (true forked gills), and the inedible scaly vase chanterelle Turbinellus floccosus.

Mycology is an evolving science: names, classifications and safety information change as research advances. Entries are compiled from cited sources and reviewed, but may be incomplete or out of date — check the sources, and never rely on this library alone to identify or eat a mushroom.
