Ringed conecap
A small brown conecap with a distinct membranous ring on its pale stem, growing on soil in parks, along roadsides and in broadleaf woods. It belongs to the ringed Pholiotina group, which also contains the deadly amatoxin-bearing Conocybe rugosa and C. filaris. Separating these species requires a microscope.
Do not eat; treat as potentially deadly. Its own toxicity is not documented in the sources consulted, but closely related ringed conecaps, Conocybe rugosa and C. filaris (also called Pholiotina rugosa/filaris), contain amatoxins and have caused serious poisonings. They are not reliably separable without microscopy.
