Fried Chicken Mushroom, Clustered Domecap
Lyophyllum decastes (Fr.) Singer forms large, tight clusters of grey-brown to brown capped mushrooms in disturbed soil, lawns, roadsides and woodland edges. Its firm texture gives it the name 'fried chicken mushroom'. It is a saprotroph and is cultivated in Japan and China on sawdust/grain media.
Edible when cooked; firm, mild. Beginners must rule out toxic look-alikes such as Entoloma species (pink spore print) and clustered Clitocybe; take a spore print.
Never eat a wild mushroom based on a web page — confirm with an expert.
