Egghead Mottlegill
A tall, pale dung mushroom with a slimy, egg-shaped whitish to tan cap, black mottled gills and a black spore print. It is the only Panaeolus with a ring, a thin, high band on the stem that often blackens with spores or disappears. It grows on horse dung and is widely distributed.
Generally regarded as inedible, with a poor taste (Wikipedia). It has been unreliably rumored to contain psilocybin; this is unconfirmed. Small dark-spored dung mushrooms include psychoactive Panaeolus and Psilocybe species and toxic look-alikes such as Conocybe, so it is not recommended.
