Black Morel (cultivated)
Morchella sextelata M. Kuo is a black morel (Elata clade, phylogenetic species Mel-6) first described from burned conifer forests in western North America. Together with M. importuna and M. eximia it is one of the main morels cultivated outdoors in China. Fruit bodies have a conical, dark-ridged, honeycombed cap that is hollow and continuous with the stem.
Choice edible when cooked. Never eat raw morels; can cause gastrointestinal upset. Distinguish from Gyromitra (false morels, chambered not hollow).
Never eat a wild mushroom based on a web page — confirm with an expert.
