Winter Truffle, Muscat Truffle
Tuber brumale Vittad. is a European black winter truffle that matures in the same season and habitat as the Périgord truffle (T. melanosporum). It is smaller-warted and has a lighter gleba with broader, fewer white veins and a distinctive musky aroma. It is commercially traded at lower prices than T. melanosporum and can compete with it in truffle orchards.
Edible and marketed, with a musky, somewhat earthy aroma considered inferior to T. melanosporum.
