Hypocrealean ascomycetes that parasitize insects, other fungi or truffles. The genus now includes the Elaphomyces-parasitic species formerly placed in Cordyceps and Elaphocordyceps, moved here in 2014. T. inflatum is the source of the immunosuppressant drug cyclosporine.
Teleomorphs: club-shaped to capitate stromata with embedded perithecia, often joined to a buried Elaphomyces host by yellow mycelial threads. Ascospores: long and septate, breaking into part-spores.

Mycology is an evolving science: names, classifications and safety information change as research advances. Entries are compiled from cited sources and reviewed, but may be incomplete or out of date — check the sources, and never rely on this library alone to identify or eat a mushroom.
