Goldenthread Cordyceps
1 public strain
A small club-shaped ascomycete that parasitizes underground deer truffles (Elaphomyces). It is joined to its buried host by golden-yellow mycelial threads. The dark red-brown to black head is the fertile stroma, dotted with embedded perithecia. Formerly placed in Cordyceps and Elaphocordyceps, it was moved to Tolypocladium in 2014.
Considered inedible. It is used in traditional Chinese medicine, but it is not a food mushroom.

Mycology is an evolving science: names, classifications and safety information change as research advances. Entries are compiled from cited sources and reviewed, but may be incomplete or out of date — check the sources, and never rely on this library alone to identify or eat a mushroom.
