Pleurotus nebrodensis (Inzenga) Quél. is a rare, white to cream, thick-fleshed oyster mushroom of Mediterranean mountain pastures, best known from the limestone uplands of northern Sicily (Madonie massif) and confirmed molecularly from Greece (northern Peloponnese, Mt Parnassos). It grows on dead roots of the umbellifer Prangos ferulacea (syn. Cachrys ferulacea). It belongs to the P. eryngii species complex and is threatened (IUCN Endangered; formerly assessed as Critically Endangered in 2006). Material sold as 'P. nebrodensis' in Asian markets is usually the distinct Chinese species P. tuoliensis.
