Bailinggu, White Elf Mushroom
Pleurotus tuoliensis (C.J. Mou) M.R. Zhao & Jin X. Zhang is the cultivated 'Bailinggu' of China, a thick-fleshed, white, funnel- to fan-shaped oyster of the P. eryngii species complex. Molecular and morphological study showed the cultivated Bailinggu is a separate species from the Mediterranean P. nebrodensis, under whose name it was long sold. In the wild it is associated with roots of Ferula plants in the grasslands of Xinjiang.
