Matt Knight
A stout brown Tricholoma of pine woods whose dry cap breaks up into fine overlapping scales. The stem is usually solid rather than hollow, and there is no cortina-like veil. It is one of several similar brown, scaly conifer Tricholomas.
Edibility doubtful: possibly edible but tough and unpalatable. Not recommended, because it can be confused with poisonous brown Tricholoma species of the T. pessundatum group (and T. ustale), which cause gastrointestinal poisoning.
