Gassy Knight

A pale cream to tan Tricholoma of conifer forests with widely spaced, broad gills and a strong, unpleasant odour like coal gas or coal tar. The odour is shared with the yellow T. sulphureum group, but this species lacks yellow colours.

Cap: convex to flat, sometimes with a low umbo, dry, creamy white to pale tan. Gills: notched, distant, broad, whitish without yellow tints. Stem: whitish, no ring. Flesh: white; odour strong, like coal gas or coal tar. Spore print: white.
