Soapy Knight
A medium-sized, very variable Tricholoma named for the soapy odor many collections have. The stem base usually turns pinkish to orange when cut, though the color can take hours to appear. In the strict sense it is a European species. North American authors apply the name to a broad group with many cap colors and hosts, which probably includes more than one species.
Poisonous. Guidebooks list it as inedible or poisonous, and it contains toxins that can cause severe gastrointestinal upset. The mild taste gives no warning. Do not eat.
